Concacaf Disciplinary Committee Sanctions Anguilla & Guyana After U-20 Qualifiers Incident

The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) has officially imposed major sanctions on the Men’s Under-20 National Teams of the Anguilla Football Association and the Guyana Football Federation following serious incidents during their Concacaf U-20 Qualifiers clash on Saturday, February 28, 2026.

The ruling, issued by the Concacaf Disciplinary Committee, includes match forfeits, player suspensions, fines, and the disqualification of both teams from the competition.

After reviewing official match reports, video evidence, and disciplinary documentation, the Committee determined that Anguilla received five red cards during the encounter.

Under the Laws of the Game, a team must maintain the minimum required number of players to continue a match. With Anguilla reduced below that threshold, the fixture could not proceed.

As a result:

  • The match has been officially declared a forfeit in favor of Guyana
  • The 5–0 scoreline in Guyana’s favor stands
  • Both teams have been disqualified from the competition
  • Remaining matches for both sides will be recorded as 3–0 forfeits in favor of their respective opponents
  • Undisclosed fines have been imposed on both associations

This decision has sent shockwaves across Caribbean football, particularly given the importance of youth development and the pathway to senior international football.

Players Handed Four-Match Suspensions

The Concacaf Disciplinary Committee also issued four-match suspensions to several players from both squads.

Anguilla – Suspended Players

  • Keondre Belle
  • Keante Brooks
  • Shemor Browne
  • Khalique Jackson
  • Cardinae Rennie

Guyana – Suspended Players

  • Mateo Clark
  • Shaquan David
  • Sheldon Kendall
  • Max Robinson

Each player must serve their suspension during official matches of their representative team in the same age group in a Concacaf or FIFA competition.

If the suspension cannot be completed at the U-20 level, it will automatically carry over to the next highest age category in a Concacaf or FIFA competition.

What This Means for Caribbean Football

This decision highlights Concacaf’s firm stance on maintaining discipline, sportsmanship, and the integrity of youth competitions.

For both Anguilla and Guyana, the disqualification represents a significant setback in their U-20 development cycles. Youth tournaments like the Concacaf U-20 Qualifiers are critical stepping stones toward senior national team exposure and long-term regional growth.

The incident also reinforces the importance of discipline management at youth level, where emotional intensity must be balanced with professionalism.

Final Thoughts

The Concacaf Disciplinary Committee’s ruling sends a clear message: breaches of discipline at the international level will carry serious consequences.

With both teams now eliminated from the competition, attention shifts to how their respective federations respond, rebuild, and refocus on developing the next generation of talent within the region.
