Port of Spain, Trinidad – August 14, 2025 – The Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) have confirmed Nicholas Pooran as their new captain for the upcoming Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025, marking a major leadership transition in the franchise’s history. Pooran takes over from Kieron Pollard, who has led TKR since 2019 and guided the team to their record fourth CPL title in 2020 with an unbeaten season.
Pooran, one of the most explosive T20 batters in world cricket, expressed his pride in leading his home franchise:
“It means a lot to represent Trinbago Knight Riders. I want to give it my best shot and hopefully make the right decisions for the team. Having Pollard, Sunil Narine, and Andre Russell alongside me means I have a wealth of experience to lean on.”
The 29-year-old wicketkeeper-batter began his CPL career at just 17 with the T&T Red Steel and has since scored over 9,000 T20 runs worldwide at a strike rate of 149. Last season, he was in sensational form, smashing 504 runs in 11 matches at an average of 56.00 for TKR.
Pollard on the Leadership Change:
Pollard, who remains part of the squad, said this was the right moment for the next generation to take over:
“Pooran is homegrown, understands our values, and has been prepared for this role over the years. I’m happy to still be on the field to help him ease into the captaincy.”
Head Coach Dwayne Bravo, himself a former TKR and Red Steel captain, echoed the sentiment:
“This is the right time for Pooran to lead. He has learned from us and has the talent to be one of the greatest T20 players. We’ll give him everything he needs to succeed.”
TKR’s 2025 CPL Campaign
The Knight Riders begin their 2025 season on August 17 against St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots at Warner Park. Fans are eager to see if the new leadership duo of Pooran and Bravo can deliver another championship to the Caribbean’s most successful CPL team.
