In a heartfelt announcement that has sent ripples through the cricketing world, Nicholas Pooran, one of the Caribbean’s most talented and explosive modern-day batters, has officially retired from international cricket at the age of 29.

The Trinidad and Tobago-born cricketer, widely celebrated for his attacking flair and leadership qualities, shared the news via a powerful statement on his social media pages:

“After much thought and reflection, I’ve decided to announce my retirement from international cricket,” stated Pooran.
“This game we love has given and will continue to give us so much—joy, purpose, unforgettable memories, and a chance to represent the people of the West Indies.”

Pooran went on to describe the emotional significance of wearing the maroon jersey, the honor of leading the West Indies as a white-ball captain, and the bond he shared with fans across the region and beyond.

“Wearing that maroon, standing for the anthem, and giving everything I had each time I stepped on the field… It’s hard to put into words what that truly means to me.
To have led the team as captain is a privilege I will always hold close to my heart.”

He also thanked fans, family, teammates, and the wider Caribbean cricket community:

“To the fans: thank you for your unwavering love. You lifted me in the tough moments and celebrated the good ones with unmatched passion.
To my family, friends and teammates: thank you for walking this journey with me. Your belief and support carried me through it all.”

Although stepping away from international duties, Pooran made it clear his passion for West Indies cricket remains:

“Though this international chapter of my career closes, my love for West Indies Cricket will never fade. I wish the team and the region nothing but success and strength for the road ahead.”

The Cricket West Indies (CWI) has confirmed that Pooran, fresh off a standout IPL 2025 season with the Lucknow Super Giants, officially informed the board of his retirement.

Pooran’s decision marks the end of a vibrant chapter in West Indies cricket. His dynamic shot-making, fearless approach, and leadership will be missed on the international stage.
