Trinbago Knight Riders Women made a powerful start to the Limacol WCPL 2026, defeating defending champions Barbados Tridents Women by 21 runs in the tournament opener at Kensington Oval.
After being sent in to bat, TKR recovered from an early scare and posted a competitive 155. A disciplined bowling performance then shut down the Tridents’ run chase and secured an impressive opening victory for the Knight Riders.
Laura Harris Powers TKR to Explosive PowerPlay
Barbados nearly struck immediately when seamer Shawnisha Hector appeared to dismiss the TKR opener with a caught-and-bowled chance. The delivery was called a no-ball, however, giving Bhatia an important reprieve.
The Indian opener capitalized on the opportunity and combined with Laura Harris to give the Knight Riders a flying start. Harris attacked from the outset, blasting 38 from only 19 deliveries, while Bhatia added a valuable 35.
Their partnership carried TKR to 71 runs from the opening six overs and placed the Tridents under severe pressure during the PowerPlay.
Tridents Fight Back to Bowl Out Knight Riders for 155
Barbados used four bowlers during the PowerPlay but initially struggled to slow the scoring. Suzie Bates and Quiana Joseph eventually changed the momentum, sharing five wickets as the defending champions fought their way back into the contest.
The Knight Riders were ultimately dismissed for 155, leaving Barbados with a demanding but achievable target.
Deandra Dottin and Shikha Pandey Derail Barbados Chase
The Tridents began positively, with each of their top four batters making a start. Debutant Kiran Navgire threatened with 28, while Joseph struck 25 from 21 balls to keep Barbados in contention.
TKR’s pace attack then seized control. Deandra Dottin and Shikha Pandey combined for five wickets, breaking the backbone of the chase and steadily pushing the required scoring rate beyond Barbados.
With the pressure mounting and wickets falling, the Knight Riders’ spinners finished off the lower order to complete a strong all-round bowling display.

The 21-run win gives Trinbago Knight Riders Women early momentum in their WCPL 2026 campaign and sends a clear warning to the rest of the competition.
