Saint Lucia Kings Beat Antigua & Barbuda Falcons by Four Runs in CPL 2026 Thriller

Saint Lucia Kings opened their Caribbean Premier League 2026 campaign with a dramatic four-run victory over the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons at Arnos Vale, surviving a tense final-over finish after a brilliant 82 from Andries Gous.

The Kings looked under pressure for much of the Falcons’ run chase, but captain Roston Chase helped change the momentum through the middle overs before Matthew Forde held his nerve in a dramatic final over to secure the Kings’ first victory of CPL 2026.

Andries Gous Powers Saint Lucia Kings

Saint Lucia Kings wasted little time showing their attacking intent with the bat.

After establishing themselves as one of the CPL’s most aggressive powerplay teams last season, the Kings continued that approach by racing to 53/1 from the opening six overs.

At the heart of the innings was Andries Gous, who produced an outstanding 82 to keep the Kings moving despite wickets falling around him.

Ackeem Auguste, Roston Chase and Matthew Forde made useful contributions without being able to convert their starts into substantial scores, leaving Gous with the responsibility of anchoring the innings while maintaining the required tempo.

The Falcons struggled to contain him as Gous repeatedly found ways to put pressure back on the bowling attack.

Rain Interrupts Kings Innings at Arnos Vale

With three overs remaining, rain interrupted play and forced a delay of approximately 40 minutes.

When play resumed, Gous’ excellent innings eventually came to an end on 82 after Evin Lewis produced a superb catch.

However, McKenny Clarke and Shadley van Schalkwyk provided an important late boost, combining for 25 valuable unbeaten runs to ensure the Kings finished with a competitive total.

The Falcons were impressive in the field, completing five excellent catches during the innings.

Alzarri Joseph led the bowling attack with figures of 3/32, while Shamar Springer removed Gous and then dismissed Joshua Bishop three deliveries later to finish with 2/39.

There was also a personal milestone for Rahkeem Cornwall, who claimed his 50th CPL wicket when he bowled Ackeem Auguste and sent the stumps flying.

Falcons Take Control of the Run Chase

Cornwall then switched from ball to bat and immediately put the Saint Lucia Kings under pressure.

The powerful all-rounder smashed five boundaries from only 13 deliveries to give the Falcons a rapid start before Maheesh Theekshana brought his attacking cameo to an end.

The Falcons continued to dominate through Evin Lewis and Tim Robinson, who combined for a 56-run partnership that appeared to put Antigua & Barbuda firmly on course for victory.

By the halfway stage of the chase, the Falcons had raced to 109/2 and looked in control.

Saint Lucia, however, refused to allow the match to slip away.

Roston Chase Helps Turn the Match

The dismissals of Tajinder Singh and Karima Gore changed the complexion of the contest as the Kings began to apply pressure.

Captain Roston Chase produced a crucial spell during the middle overs, slowing the Falcons’ momentum at exactly the right time.

Jahmar Hamilton struggled to accelerate, scoring just 10 from 20 deliveries, while the required run rate continued to climb.

Fabian Allen attempted to keep the chase alive at the other end, but the Falcons were unable to rediscover the fluency that had put them in such a strong position earlier in the innings.

What had looked like a comfortable chase suddenly became a final-over thriller.

Matthew Forde Holds His Nerve in Dramatic Final Over

Antigua & Barbuda entered the final over needing 13 runs to win.

Despite having endured an expensive spell, Matthew Forde was given responsibility for the decisive six deliveries.

Forde responded under pressure, limiting the Falcons largely to singles before Hamilton was run out with two balls remaining.

That brought Shamar Springer to the crease.

Springer immediately changed the equation, smashing a boundary straight back over Forde’s head and setting up a dramatic final delivery.

The Falcons needed five runs from the last ball to win.

Forde held his nerve.

Springer top-edged the final delivery high into the air, where Darren Nedd completed the catch, sealing a thrilling four-run victory for Saint Lucia Kings.

Saint Lucia Kings Start CPL 2026 With Victory

For the Kings, it was a dramatic way to begin their CPL 2026 campaign.

Gous’ 82 provided the foundation, Chase’s spell helped drag Saint Lucia back into a contest that appeared to be slipping away, and Forde delivered when it mattered most in the final over.

For Antigua & Barbuda Falcons, the defeat will be particularly frustrating after they had reached 109/2 at the halfway stage and appeared firmly in control of the chase.

The Falcons will not have to wait long for an opportunity to respond.

Saint Lucia Kings and Antigua & Barbuda Falcons meet again on Friday in Saint Lucia, with the Falcons looking for revenge and the Kings hoping to build early momentum in the Caribbean Premier League 2026 season.
