West Indies icons Dwayne Bravo and Ian Bishop have made history as the first inductees into the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League Hall of Fame.
The inaugural class was officially announced during a gala dinner at the Hilton Barbados on Tuesday, 15 September, recognising two men whose contributions have helped shape the CPL since its inception.
Bravo entered the Hall of Fame as its first playing inductee and became the inaugural recipient of the Sir Garry Sobers Award. The prestigious honour was presented by Daniel Sobers on behalf of the Sobers family.
Dwayne Bravo Receives Sir Garry Sobers Award
Named in honour of legendary West Indies all-rounder Sir Garry Sobers, the award will serve as the centrepiece of the CPL Hall of Fame.
The Sobers family granted the tournament permission to associate the West Indies great’s name with the trophy, creating a lasting tribute to a player widely regarded as one of the finest all-rounders in cricket history.
Bravo’s induction recognises an outstanding CPL career in which he became one of the competition’s most successful and influential performers.
The Trinidad and Tobago star finished his playing career with 129 CPL wickets and won five championships as a player with the Trinbago Knight Riders. He later added another title as TKR head coach in 2025, taking his overall tally to six CPL championships.
His impact extended beyond statistics and trophies, with Bravo becoming one of the most recognisable personalities associated with the tournament and a central figure in the success of the Knight Riders franchise.
Ian Bishop Honoured for Broadcasting Excellence
Former West Indies fast bowler and respected commentator Ian Bishop was inducted in the Hall of Fame’s non-playing category.
Bishop has been one of the defining voices of the Caribbean Premier League since the tournament began in 2013. His knowledge, passion and unmistakable delivery have helped take the “Biggest Party in Sport” to audiences throughout the Caribbean and across the world.
The honour recognises Bishop’s contribution to the growth of the competition and his standing as one of cricket’s most respected broadcasters.
CPL CEO Celebrates Historic Inductees
Republic Bank CPL CEO Pete Russell praised Bravo and Bishop for the roles they have played in building the tournament.
“Dwayne and Ian represent everything this Hall of Fame was created to celebrate. Their contribution to this competition, on the field and behind the microphone, has helped build CPL into the phenomenon it is today, and it was a privilege to welcome them into this inaugural class,” Russell said.

The gala dinner also supported the Sir Clive Lloyd Healthcare Foundation’s prostate cancer awareness initiatives.
CPL confirmed that two additional names will be inducted into the Hall of Fame each year, ensuring that the players and personalities who have helped develop the tournament receive lasting recognition.
As the Republic Bank CPL continues to expand throughout the region, its Hall of Fame will preserve the legacies of the people who transformed the competition into one of the world’s leading T20 leagues.
For Trinidad and Tobago supporters, the inaugural ceremony carried added significance. Bravo and Bishop have both represented the country and the wider West Indies with distinction, making their historic induction a proud moment for Caribbean cricket.
