The Trinbago Knight Riders, defending champions of the Caribbean Premier League, today announced a couple of changes to their support staff for CPL 2021 season. Head Coach Brendon McCullum is unavailable for CPL 2021, due to personal reasons & COVID related travel restrictions. Consequently TKR have appointed Imran Jan as the Head Coach for CPL 2021. Imran, a former Trinidad & Tobago captain and West Indies A cricketer himself, has been a part of the TKR setup since inception as Assistant Coach. Additionally, Dinanath Ramnarine, the former West Indies player, has joined the support staff as Advisor. Ramnarine represented the West Indies in 12 Tests and four ODIs in an international career spanning from 1997 to 2002.TKR will play their first game on August 26 vs. The Guyana Amazon Warriors at Warner Park to commence the defence of their title. “
Imran Jan who is 42 years of age is a former Trinidad and Tobago and West Indies A opening batsman and occasional off-spinner. He started his local coaching career at the Queens Park Cricket Club (QPCC) before moving onto coaching the National Academy squad. Imran has spent a number of years coaching in the UK at County Durham and Surrey at various levels. Imran also worked at the University Of Trinidad and Tobago as a High-Performance Coach for 7 years. The same University where EXTV’s Andre Sooklal attended and where both of them met.
This is surely not the news that the staff was looking forward to but Imran Jan has been an essential component to the success of this team and the Trinbago Knight Riders are admirably known for their strength as a group and dealing with situations like this in the past. The experience of Imran Jan combined with the very close-knit support staff at TKR will all definitely be doing their best to quell any concerns that the fans may have. With the tournament starting in a few days Imran Jan’s journey has taken quite an interesting turn.
