TTFA Appoints Derek King as Head Coach: New Era Begins for Trinidad & Tobago Men’s Team

The Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) has made it official — Derek King is now the full-time head coach of the senior men’s national team.

After stepping in as interim boss earlier this year, King has been rewarded with a one-year contract, signaling a strong vote of confidence from the federation.

TTFA President Kieron Edwards emphasized continuity and belief in King’s leadership, pointing to his deep understanding of the national setup and his steady influence within the squad.

This marks the first time King takes charge permanently, after previous stints as interim head coach and assistant — including working alongside Stephen Hart at both international level and with Halifax Wanderers.

💬 King’s Message:
“It’s an honor to lead Trinidad and Tobago. We will build a disciplined, hardworking team and make the nation proud.”

⚔️ Big Tests Incoming

King doesn’t have time to settle in — his tenure kicks off with major international fixtures:

  • 🇰🇷 South Korea – May 30 (Utah)
  • 🇷🇺 Russia – June 9 (Away)

These matches will set the tone ahead of the Concacaf Nations League later this year.

🏆 Proven Track Record

King brings experience and success to the role:

  • 🏆 TT Pro League titles with Joe Public & North East Stars
  • 🏆 Caribbean U-20 Championship winner (2014)
  • 🇹🇹 Extensive national team coaching experience

🎯 EXTV Take

This appointment is all about stability and identity. The TTFA is betting on a coach who knows the system — but now the real question is:

👉 Can Derek King deliver results when it matters most?

With big games ahead and pressure building, this is a defining moment for both King and Trinidad & Tobago football.
