The Trinidad & Tobago Men’s National Team has officially announced its squad for the upcoming international friendly against South Korea on May 30 at BYU Field in Salt Lake City, Utah, with several exciting new faces earning maiden senior call-ups as head coach Derek King continues to expand the national player pool ahead of a crucial international period.
Among the headline inclusions are first-time call-ups for Ali Kazim Nakhid, Kieran Ngwenya and Jacob Greene, three players who bring international experience and fresh competition into the squad setup.
Nakhid, the son of former Trinidad & Tobago captain David Nakhid, has been rewarded for his performances with UAE-based club Al Ittifaq FC. Meanwhile, Scotland-based defender Kieran Ngwenya joins the squad after previously representing Malawi at senior level, while Lexington Sporting Club full-back Jacob Greene also gets his first opportunity in national colours.
Derek King explained that the match against South Korea presents an important opportunity to continue evaluating players and building depth within the national setup.
Several notable players will miss the fixture. Levi Garcia, Ajani Fortune and Rio Cardines were excused from the squad, while Wayne Frederick II, Tyrese Spicer and Luke Singh are unavailable through injury.
Cardines’ absence comes as the young Trinidad & Tobago defender prepares for one of the biggest matches of his career, with Crystal Palace set to compete in tomorrow’s UEFA Europa Conference League Final. Nathaniel James and Dantaye Gilbert were also unavailable due to their clubs participating in end-of-season playoffs.
The fixture will serve as an important test for Trinidad & Tobago against a South Korean side preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. South Korea are expected to use the game as part of their final preparations before opening their World Cup campaign next month.
