Trinbago Knight Riders returned to winning ways in style as Sunil Narine delivered an outstanding all-round performance to inspire a commanding seven-wicket victory over Barbados Tridents at Queen’s Park Oval.
After suffering a frustrating run of defeats, the defending champions produced the response their supporters had been waiting for—combining relentless spin bowling, aggressive captaincy and explosive PowerPlay batting to secure a much-needed win in the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League.
Sunil Narine Powers TKR’s CPL Comeback
Narine once again demonstrated why he remains one of the most influential players in T20 cricket.
The experienced West Indies star claimed 2 for 14 from four overs before delivering a destructive half-century at the top of the order. His performance helped TKR restrict Barbados to 127 for nine and then chase down the target comfortably.
For fans who have followed Narine’s success with Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League, this was another reminder of his unique ability to change a T20 match with both bat and ball.
TKR’s Spinners Dominate at Queen’s Park Oval
After choosing to bowl first, TKR captain Nicholas Pooran immediately placed his faith in the team’s spin options.
The strategy worked.
The Queen’s Park Oval surface offered significant turn, and Barbados struggled to generate momentum throughout the PowerPlay. TKR also maintained an attacking field, with Kieron Pollard positioned close to the bat as Pooran searched aggressively for wickets.

Usman Tariq delivered another impressive spell, conceding just 11 runs and dismissing Zachary Carter for 28. Narine then tightened TKR’s grip on the match as wickets continued to fall through the middle overs.
Barbados captain Chris Green offered some resistance with 27 before being dismissed by a slower delivery from Pollard. A late contribution from Rivaldo Clarke helped the visitors reach 127 for nine, but TKR had already done the major damage.
Narine and Munro Launch Explosive Run Chase
Despite the difficult batting conditions, Narine and Colin Munro made the chase look remarkably straightforward.
The TKR opening pair attacked from the beginning, racing to 60 without loss in the PowerPlay and bringing the Queen’s Park Oval crowd to life.
Narine was particularly destructive, sending the ball around the ground in a fearless display of PowerPlay hitting. He reached his half-century after already producing the standout bowling performance of the match.
Narine and Munro added 96 runs for the first wicket—the highest opening partnership of the tournament at that stage—to put TKR firmly on course for victory.
Barbados eventually removed Munro, Narine and Pooran, but the breakthroughs came too late. Pollard and Jyd Goolie calmly completed the chase to seal an emphatic seven-wicket win.
A Much-Needed Victory for Trinbago Knight Riders
This was more than another victory for TKR.
Following several disappointing results, the Knight Riders needed a convincing performance to restore confidence and momentum. They delivered it through disciplined bowling, brave tactics and the aggressive brand of cricket traditionally associated with the franchise.
Narine’s all-round brilliance will understandably dominate the headlines, but this was also an impressive collective performance. Pooran’s captaincy was proactive, the bowlers adapted perfectly to the conditions and the top order ensured the chase never became uncomfortable.
